Creswell Crags

Year 3 and 4 had a fantastic day out visiting Creswell Crags on Monday 31st March as a finale to their topic on The Stone Age.

Whilst we were there we were split into tribes. Miss Jones led the Irish Elk tribe, Mr Walmsley led the Lynx, Mrs Mallaband led the Wild Horses and Mr Mears led the Steppe Bison tribe.

Each tribe completed three activities during our visit. We visited Mother Grundy's cave and looked at different artefacts that stone age people would have used. We used our Historian skills to try to identify what the object was made from and what it would have been used for. Before leaving the cave we made our own stone age music.

As part of our activities we learnt about survival skills. We built a shelter from long sticks, string and animal skins. Did you know- stone age people made string from animal intestines?

We also visited the museum and learnt about animal skeletons. We had to be detectives and try to piece together a real animal skeleton, this was trickier than we thought it might be!

A good time was had by all, with a welcome addition of the sunny weather and the chance to have an early spring picnic.

Take a look at the photos in our Gallery.
