The second week seems to have flown by in the blink of an eye. Believe it or not, Whitehall is coming up on Monday. By the time this is written next week, the first residential of the year will be a memory that the children cherish for the rest of their lives.
Gold Award Winners
Congratulations to this week’s Gold Award Winners. We are all proud of the effort they are putting into their school life and the work they are producing.

Just a quick reminder that the children should only be wearing small studded earrings – this is for health and safety reasons. Please ensure they are removed on P.E days or tape is provided to cover them up.
Book Fair
The book fair will take place from Monday 30th September to Wednesday 2nd October. More details will follow next week.
Summer Reading Challenge
|
Congratulations once again to all of the children that took part in the Summer reading challenge. As we reported 2 weeks ago, we were 1st place in Derbyshire which means that our school has been shortlisted as a finalist for our region in the 2024 National Read Aloud Challenge. The winning and runner-up schools will be announced on Tuesday 15th October. The children in the picture made it onto the regional leaderboard and have been rewarded with a book.
Designated Safeguarding Leaders
We would like to welcome Miss Burton to the school’s safeguarding team. Miss Burton carried out the first part of the training on Tuesday and will complete the course on Thursday. This means that the safeguarding team consists of Miss Jones, Miss Burton, Mrs Housley and Mr Walmsley. If you ever have any issues or concerns regarding safeguarding, please speak to any member of the school staff however it will be one of the four outlined above that will deal with any safeguarding issues.
Snacks and Drinks
|
Please note, the children are allowed a piece of fruit or veg only for their snack at breaktime. Cheese, breakfast bars, chocolate bars etc are not allowed at breaktime – all of these things are allowed in their lunchbox for lunch time. The children should also be drinking water during breaktimes and in lessons as and when required. Juice is allowed in their lunchbox.
Button Badge Winners
Every week in school, we have a ‘value of the week’ and this week’s value was teamwork. The school councillors will then choose a member of their class who has displayed this value throughout the week. This week, upper school have set the example for the lower school. Congratulations to this week’s winners.

Mr Walmsley’s Reading Challenge
This week, Mr Walmsley announced his reading challenge. During the reading for pleasure assembly, the children read ‘The Twits’ by Roald Dahl and their challenge was to create an evil plot similar to the worms in the spaghetti or the frog in the bed. The deadline for the challenge is Friday 26th September. Once your child has completed it, they will put in the reading challenge box which is in the hall on the piano.

It has been so pleasing to see clubs return this week – I know the children have been excited too. Here are a few photos from Maker Club and Art Club. There is a photo of Cooking Club on page 1.
